Pharmacognosy & Ethnobotany

Pharmacognosy & Ethnobotany

The term pharmacognosy comes from the Greek terms for drug (pharmakon) and knowledge (gnosis) (gnosis). It's a branch of chemistry that studies natural compounds obtained from various sources and their biological functions. It entails quality control, standardization, phytoconstituent isolation and characterization, and formulation development. Natural product research began more than a century ago and has continued to this day, with numerous research groups uncovering new concepts and active ingredients.

People, culture, a culture's collective body of beliefs, aesthetic, language, knowledge, and practice are all mentioned as ethno (as in "ethnic"). Ethnobiology is the study of the past and present relationships between people, the lifeforms that surround them, and the environment in which they exist. Ethnobotany is said to be branch of ethnobiology that has ethnobotany. Ethnobotany is a multi-disciplinary, integrative subject of study. Field ethnobotany is the study of the human-plant relationship in natural settings where it can be observed and documented in stories and photos.
