Each drug has the potential to induce side effects, and no drug is fully safe. The process of discovering and responding to drug safety issues is known as pharmacovigilance, and it has increased in popularity over the last 10 to 15 years. The science and activities relating to the detection, assessment, understanding, and prevention of adverse effects or any other drug-related problem are referred to as pharmacovigilance. The major purpose of pharmacovigilance is to promote the safe and effective use of health products, in particular by giving patients, health-care professionals, and the general public timely information regarding the safety of health products. As a conclusion, pharmacovigilance is an activity that helps to safeguard patients and sustain public health.
